Track your Driving Licence application in real time using the official Parivahan Sewa and Sarathi portal — no RTO visit needed
When you apply for a Driving Licence (DL) through the Sarathi Parivahan portal, your application goes through several stages — from document verification to driving test, approval, printing, and finally dispatch by post. The DL Application Status shows exactly which stage your application is currently at.
You can check the status for all types of driving licence applications, including:
Checking your DL status online is free, available 24 hours a day, and takes less than two minutes. You do not need to visit the RTO to find out where your application stands.
Before checking your DL application status online, keep the following details ready:
The unique reference number given to you when you submitted your DL application. It is printed on your receipt or sent to your registered mobile via SMS.
Your date of birth as entered during the application. This is used along with your application number to verify your identity on the portal.
A security code displayed on the portal page. You need to enter this correctly to proceed. It refreshes if you cannot read it clearly.
The state where you applied for your DL. You must select the correct state on the Sarathi portal before your application record can be found.
This is the fastest and most reliable method. The Sarathi portal is the official driving licence management system and gives real-time updates directly from the RTO database.
Open the official Sarathi portal. Go to sarathi.parivahan.gov.in in your browser. Make sure the URL ends in .gov.in.
Select your state. Choose the state where you originally applied for your driving licence. Selecting the wrong state will show no results.
Click on "Application Status". Look for the "Application Status" option in the top menu under "Apply Online" or the main navigation bar.
Enter your Application Number and Date of Birth. Type your application number exactly as it appears on your receipt. Enter your date of birth (DD/MM/YYYY) and the captcha code.
Click "Submit". The portal will display your current DL application status along with any remarks from the RTO.
Note down the status and any remarks. Take a screenshot or note the current status. If the status says "Pending" or "Action Required", read the remarks carefully.
You can also reach the same Application Status page through the main Parivahan portal. This is useful if you are already on the Parivahan website for other services.
Visit parivahan.gov.in and look for the "Online Services" menu at the top of the homepage.
Click on "Driving Licence Related Services" from the dropdown menu. This will redirect you to the Sarathi portal.
Select your state from the dropdown list on the Sarathi page.
Click "Application Status", enter your Application Number, Date of Birth, and captcha, then click Submit to view your status.
The mParivahan mobile app lets you check your DL status directly from your smartphone without opening a browser.
Download the mParivahan app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Search for "mParivahan NIC eGov" — it is a free, official government app.
Open the app and register with your mobile number. Enter the OTP received to verify your number.
Tap on "RC/DL Status" or the driving licence section from the app's home screen.
Enter your Application Number or DL Number along with your date of birth, then tap Submit. Your current application status will be displayed on screen.
If you have lost your application receipt or do not remember your application number, you can still find your application using your name and date of birth.
Go to sarathi.parivahan.gov.in and select your state.
In the top navigation menu, click on "Others" to open a dropdown list of additional services.
Click on "Find Application Number" from the dropdown list.
Enter your full name, date of birth, and the mobile number linked to your application. Click Submit. The portal will display your application number if a matching record is found.
Use the retrieved application number to go back to the Application Status page and check your current DL status as described in Method 1.
If the online portal is not working, your details are not matching, or you need more clarity on a pending action, visiting your RTO in person is always an option.
Visit your local RTO — the same Regional Transport Office where you originally submitted your application.
Go to the Enquiry Counter or the Help Desk and tell the officer you want to check your DL application status.
Provide your Application Number and ID proof (Aadhaar Card or any government-issued ID). The officer will check the system and give you the latest status.
When you check your status, the portal will show one of the following status messages. Here is what each one means and what action you should take:
| Status Message | What It Means | What to Do |
|---|---|---|
| Application Submitted | Your application has been received and is waiting for RTO processing to begin | Wait 2–3 working days and check again |
| Document Verification Pending | The RTO is reviewing your uploaded documents | Ensure all documents are uploaded correctly on the portal |
| Test Pending / Slot Booked | Your driving test slot has been booked and the test is yet to happen | Visit the RTO on your scheduled test date with original documents |
| Test Passed / Under Approval | You passed your driving test and the RTO officer is approving your DL | No action needed — wait for approval to complete |
| Approved / DL Printed | Your DL has been approved and printed by the RTO | Your DL will be dispatched by post soon. Download digital copy now |
| Dispatched by Post | Your physical DL card has been posted to your registered address | Track delivery using the Speed Post tracking number provided |
| Rejected / Cancelled | Your application has been rejected by the RTO | Check the rejection reason in remarks and reapply after resolving the issue |
| Biometric Pending | Your biometric (fingerprint/photo) has not been recorded yet | Visit your RTO to complete biometric registration |
This is the most common issue. It usually occurs when:
The Sarathi portal can be slow during peak hours (9 AM to 1 PM on weekdays). Try accessing it in the early morning or late evening. If the issue persists, clear your browser cache or try a different browser.
If your status has not changed for more than 15–20 working days, it is time to take action:
Make sure the mobile number registered with your Parivahan/Sarathi account is correct and active. You can update your mobile number on the Sarathi portal without visiting the RTO — use the "Update Mobile Number" option under the portal's services.
It generally takes 2 to 4 weeks for the RTO to process and dispatch your driving licence after you pass the driving test. Processing time may vary depending on your state and the RTO's workload.
Yes. Go to sarathi.parivahan.gov.in, select your state, and click on "Others" → "Find Application Number." Enter your name, date of birth, and registered mobile number to retrieve your application number.
When the status shows "Dispatched," the RTO would have sent a Speed Post tracking number to your registered mobile via SMS. Use it on indiapost.gov.in to track your delivery. If 30+ days have passed, contact your RTO directly.
Yes. Once your status shows "Approved" or "DL Printed," you can download a legally valid digital copy from the Sarathi portal under "Print DL / DL Extract" or via the mParivahan app or DigiLocker.
Always select the state where you originally submitted your driving licence application — not your current state of residence. Your application record is stored with the RTO of the state where you applied.
Call the toll-free Parivahan helpline at 1800-180-0151 or email helpdesk-sarathi@gov.in. Provide your application number, state, and a clear description of the issue for faster resolution.
No. Checking your DL application status on the official Sarathi Parivahan portal and mParivahan app is completely free of charge. Never pay any fee to any website or agent.
